2027 MIAA Tournaments
Checked October 3, 2026. The MIAA lists no 2027 tournament dates, brackets, or hosts yet. This section gives last season's format and a projection from it.
Format, from the 2025-26 tournaments
- Six teams qualify. The top two seeds skip the first round. The higher seed hosts each first-round game. The No. 1 seed hosts the semifinals and the final, and keeps hosting the final after a semifinal loss. In 2026 Olivet, the men's No. 1 seed, lost its semifinal to Trine. Hope beat Trine in the final at Olivet the next night.
- Men: first round on Tuesday, semifinals on Friday, final on Saturday. Women: first round on Wednesday, semifinals on Friday, final on Saturday.
- The regular-season champion is the team with the best MIAA won-loss record. The tournament champion gets the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship.

Projected 2027 dates
The schedules on this page end on Saturday, February 20 and Sunday, February 21, 2027. If the MIAA keeps the 2026 pattern, the tournaments fall on these days. None of these dates is official.
- Men: first round Tuesday, February 23; semifinals Friday, February 26; final Saturday, February 27, 2027.
- Women: first round Wednesday, February 24; semifinals Friday, February 26; final Saturday, February 27, 2027.
The MIAA posts one tournament page per sport. The 2026 men's tournament page and 2026 women's tournament page list every game with the score, a box score, and each school's recap. They also link to tickets, the program, standings, and statistics. Expect the 2027 pages to look the same, in the last week of the regular season. Tickets go through the MIAA tickets page.
Tiebreakers
The MIAA does not publish its basketball tiebreaker rules. As of October 3, 2026, miaa.org has no handbook, bylaws, sport regulations, or tiebreaker procedure for men's or women's basketball. The conference's Championship Determination page says that the champion is the team with the best MIAA won-loss record. It says that the tournament champion gets the NCAA bid. It does not say how the MIAA orders teams with the same record.
These rules decide seeds, first-round byes, home games, and in a tie for first place the regular-season title. They affect every team, player, and fan in the conference, and the conference should post them where anyone can read them. Peer Division III leagues do. The CCIW, for example, posts its basketball tiebreaker procedures on its public site. This page will link to the MIAA's document the day it appears. Until then, the best available evidence is the school releases and fan posts below.
Documents at miaa.net belong to the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, a Division II league, and do not apply here.
What the evidence supports
This is an inference from the three ties below and the fan posts, not a published rule. Each step says how much evidence backs it.
- Head-to-head record among the tied teams. Every source lists this first. In all three verified ties the teams split, so it decided nothing.
- Record against the other teams, one at a time, from the top of the standings down. Confirmed by the 2024 men's race. Trine and Calvin split, Trine went 2-0 against third-place Hope, and Calvin went 1-1. Trine got the No. 1 seed even though Calvin had the better second-half record, 6-1 to 5-2. So this step comes before the second-half step.
- Road record in conference games. Fan-posted only. In all three verified ties the road records were equal, so no case confirms this step or its place in the order.
- Record in the second half of the double round robin. Confirmed by the 2023 and 2024 women's races, and both school releases name it. In both cases the teams split head to head, had identical records against every other team, and had identical road records. That fits a step that sits after the first three.
- Coin flip. One fan post. No case.
Open questions: how the MIAA handles a three-team tie, which one fan post says it once resolved from the bottom of the standings up, and whether the second-half step counts the last half of the schedule or the second meeting with each opponent. The two readings matched in every case here.

- deiscanton, d3boards.com, January 28, 2022. In the MIAA the fourth step "apparently is best record/winning pct in the second half of the double round robin," and the fifth is a coin flip. The same post says that the conference does not publish the list on its website.
- Flying Dutch Fan, quoted in the same thread, d3boards.com, January 28, 2022. "The rules are clear - look at records the 2nd time through the double round robin."
- sac, d3boards.com, February 18, 2023. After a head-to-head split, the next step "should be go down the standings." The post says the MIAA broke the previous year's three-way tie by going through the standings from the bottom up instead.
